eals @ 10:47 pm: Seeking info on Steve Goodman opening for Steve Martin 1978-80
For the past seven years, I've been researching and writing a biography, "Steve Goodman: Facing the Music," on the late singer/songwriter best known for writing "City of New Orleans," who died of leukemia in 1984 at age 36. The publisher is ECW Press of Toronto, and the book's ETA is fall 2006. I've interviewed more than 900 people for the book, including prominent performers such as Steve Martin, for whom Goodman opened more than 200 times from 1978 through 1980. I'm seeking people who attended Martin's shows in that time span and might have memories or artifacts (photos, tapes, written materials) to share for my book's research. If that's you, please e-mail me directly at ceals@comcast.net. Thanks! --Clay

I saw one of the shows where he opened for Steve martin. I believe it was in the Compaq Center in Houston Tx 1978. Not much info you could use in a book, but I can say this. I had no idea who this guy was standing on stage playing guitar and singing all by himself with no other band members, but the rest of the crowd and I loved his songs. I remember being very impressed with his guitar play.

Thanks for the reply. That probably was one of two shows on Sunday, April 9, 1978, at Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston. Your comments confirm what others have said. Still hoping to find artifacts (photos, tapes, written materials) from the Steve Martin/Steve Goodman shows -- by end of summer 2006, when my manuscript is due. Thanks again.
